So I'm struggling through trying to figure out rendering with the SW plugin. I have a lot of Photoworks experience, and I can get pretty good images from it. Mostly I render wood furniture, so textures are really important. All the tutorials and documentation I have seen about applying textures using the plugin have used the built-in SW "texture" function. This is not an option for me as it does such a poor job of mapping. I think I have figured out projectors, and I can create good looking textures in Studio (using cubic and cylindrical projection). I've saved some materials (with textures) as MXM files, and I can apply them to bodies in the plugin, but the textures don't render unless I go through Studio and change the projector.

My question is, is there any way to access the projectors and textures using the plugin? I don't want to have to go into Studio and edit the projector for several dozen parts every time I change a model. Or am I just missing something basic and fundamental here?

Hi Superbad

I have long since given up applying textures in SW, the controls just are not there, (unless it is in a Photoworks rendering).

Without Studio I can't control projections at all, so all geometry goes straight into Studio for materials and mapping.

Unfortunately it is SW that is the problem.

Could they not add control over projectors to the plugin? Seems like it would be straightforward enough. (Not that I'm volunteering to code it myself or anything.)

Superbad - If I understood Juan correctly in some of his past posts , we have to wait for sw2007 for Nextlimit to get the control of the way textures are applied and controlled. Untill then it is really just not worth the time trying - but let us see any success you have :D . It is depressing but I think sw2006 does not have the inbuilt tools that allows nextlimit to provide anything that works.

Juan will probably give a much better answer when he has the time and if he sees this thread.

Yeah I am a beta tester for SW 2007. No new features as far as texturing goes with SW. Its still just the scale and spin the texture in a circle controls. If 2007 allows NL to write in the code for texturing that would be nice. Photoworks does it, and it is an add in so Im sure NL could do it somehow. Its probably a matter of priorities right now, and Im sure Texturing in SW=low right now. Studio is not that bad for textures. Lets hope it is improved next week for the final release.

So, is this a known issue?
