hi,
today (being at my computer at home) i upgraded to v3 (floating), installed it (parallel to v1 and v2 installations) - with "install rlm server" checked -, activated it with the code, that i received via mail and everything seems to run fine.
i also have laptop here, that i will want to use as a render node later on, but i have not tried that yet.
being a freelancer who usually works in his home office, currently i have been working at a client's studio for some time and there's still a few weeks to go. i purchased a new workstation for that purpose and am using that one at the client's studio. so, all the software that i need and have been using on my home office computer also is installed on the new workstation, also maxwell v2.7. since i can only use one installation at a time - either at the home office or at the client's studio - i believe this to be legit.
the client also has a v2.7 license, it is a mixed environment with three pc's (one of them being my new workstation) and two macs (mavericks).
concerning network-rendering:
i am the only 3d-guy there, so when i create maxwell content, i do it on my workstation (with my license that is). when things are ready, i use all of the computers in the network for network rendering - in this situation, one of the client's pc's is running the network manager and monitor (with the client's license), while the others (also mine) are running as nodes.
now, tomorrow i want to install the v3 on my workstation, so i'd be able to run v2.7 projects the way we are used to do but also, depending on the task, use the v3.
so, after this lengthy pre-text, here are some questions:
- since the upgrade to a floating v3 involves 10 rendernodes, i should be able to install v3 on all the client's computers and use them as rendernodes (without installing a rlm server on those client's computers), correct?
- is it, under these circumstances, possible to still have this workflow running as described above in "concerning networkrendering:"?
- now to the installtion process itself: since my new workstation currently is not in my home office network, i believe i will have to install the rlm server also on the new workstation at the client's studio (and only on that one, but not on the other computers, correct?). but: how do i proceed once the job at the client's studio is done and i pack all my gear and get it back to my home office? this time there will be two computers with rlm-servers running in my network. would it be sufficent just to uninstall the rlm-server from one of the computers or are there other things that i'd have to consider?
thx for your advice.
