I looked throughthe mayaplugin manual but ddint find how to get rthe maxwell shaders to preview roughness/reflection etc in the maya opengl viewport..

I did see in manual "Defaul t High Quality: Activates the high quality shaded for textures in the openGL viewport."
and so in my maxwell render settings in maya I checked that on and then I enabled "high Quality" in viewport(and turned on sky preview in renderglobals too which preview sky fine) but still my 0 roughness sphere looks totally gray and diffuse.. I see no "preview " of what my material will look like . my viewport looks nothing like the maxwell v2 announcment WORKFLOW PAGE 3 ( http://www.maxwellrender.com/version2/workflow.html )
how do i get the viewport to preview my roughness and reflections correctly? using the new maxwell layerd shader?

When I switch to the Maxwell Panel my objects using the new layered shaders get invisible! (when not selected). When I select an object with a layered shader it shows in wireframe mode (=not showing any material preview at all). Objects with different shaders ("old" Maxwell shader, Maya´s built-in shaders show in the viewport (but all grey, though, not showing any idea of how the material actually looks like)

I´m using Maya 2010 on Snow Leopard (a combination that has some known OpenGL issues, maybe they come into play here as well?)

(Mac Pro 8 core Nehalem with ATI Radeon HD 4870)

What happens if you uncheck "high quality" in the maxwell panel menu? This might be an problem related to the video card, we haven't tested that GPU on OSX with the new display code. Does the normal Maya viewport show the textures for the layered material?

We will investigate the issue further and find a fix.

Hi,
thanks. When I uncheck "High Quality" the objects show in the Maxwell viewpanel. The normal Maya viewport shows the textures, too. The GPU is one of the standard GPUs you can choose when ordering a new Mac Pro with Nehalem CPU.

AH-HA!
thank you!
is that in the mayapluginmanual.. i looked over the pdf twice.. and still missed it!

but I too have problems on the high quality.. if I have the panel ACTIVE I see everythign great.. but if i goto top or front or other camera/panel the Maxwel panel turns every shader black- once i click select an opbject in the panel all the shaders returtn to their high quality look.. weird.. maxwell plugin bug?? or quadrofx4600 gfx opengl bug?

win xp64, 16gig ram, w/2 quadrofx 4600 video cards, and maya 2009 x64
