Hello, I wonder if someone can offer me some advice.

I've used Maxwell with formZ/bonzai, I'm trying to work with Max so I can reference Revit files.

I like to use large "softboxes" in Maxwell renderings using an emitter material, but haven't figured out how to create a single faced object to put them on. Can anybody point me in the right direction to create a single faced rectangle so the light only shoots out in one direction from it?

ALSO

Using Max 2013, latest Maxwell/plugin. Every time I hit the MXED button in the material browser, whether with a referenced or standard material, Max crashes hard. Any idea why this is happening?

Thanks for the help,

Rick

If you make a plane and assign an emitter material to it, light will only shoot out in the direction of the plane normal (the "up" side of the plane). You don't need to do anything special, this is the default behavior. Are you seeing a different result in your scenes?

Which MXED button makes Max crash? Can you show me a screen capture containing it? Do you mean the rightmost button above the material tree, next to "Wizard..."? I've tested that functionality and it works fine here, but maybe you mean a different button, since that's not there for referenced materials.

Mihnea,

Thanks for the quick response. I had the problem with the crashing this morning for the umpteenth time, then relaunched Max and calling MXED works okay now. The planes too, it now seems to be single sided. Yesterday, for whatever novice reason, It emitted light from both sides.

Sorry for the confusion. Just for the record, if I make a material within Max, the button is as you describe, MXED. If it's a referenced material the button says "editor". Either action launches MXED without a problem, but then caused 3ds to crash hard. I think this was something I don't have setup properly as I'm new to Max, I just don't know what.

If it recurs, I'll let you know.
