convert the rpm to a debian package with alien, have to do the same to install maya

alien -c mayall-0.9.1-1.i386.rpm

hmm whats the error you're getting? I wonder why a lot of packages go with rpm too, you could just right click and extract the packages i think and move them manually.

alien converted the rpm to deb format for me so far, still I cant get the plugin to initialize.

PS: OK after some stuffing around and adding the required lines to .bash_profile and .profile maya said it couldnt load maxwell because the maxwell root wasnt configured, so i added:

MAXWELL_ROOT=/usr/NextLimit/Maxwell

to my maya.env file and all is well

Lee does maxwell work for you in command line? There is basically no help in the pdf manual or the mayall docs that help to trouble shoot a linux installation
