All posts relating to Maxwell Render 1.x
#54420
I've been running some tests on my new dual opteron system (running XP 64). Here's a couple of things I've noticed:

Voxlization: This process only utilizes 50% of the processers at any one time. It would appear that both processors are being used, but that mxcl bounces back and fourth between the two. The two graphs are exact mirror images of each other. So, at least this process does not really take full advantage of multi-processors in the current version.

It would also appear that mxcl has a limits regarding processing. 3ds Max can handle up to 4 GB when generating the scene for maxwell (but will crash once it reaches 4 GB). However, once mxcl takes over, it always seems to crash as it approaches 2 GB in processes (the mxs file itself is just under 2 GB). Even using the -hd switch dosen't seem to help (it actually crashes sooner with -hd). This may not be a size limitation but how many poly's are in the scene. My computer has 8 GB of RAM, so the system itself should be able to handle anything thrown at it.

So, with the final release of Maxwell be able to handle larger scenes (more faces), and if so, what will be it's limit? Will we also see true multi-processor support during the voxlization process?

not yet, but i think i remember oscar or victor saying that it will be when 1.0 is realised.
