I know it's been discussed before many times, but I wasn't paying attention. It's time for me to build a website and I have no knowledge or experience in that area. What are some easy, low cost options for building a new website? I'd like to hear your recommendations!

At this point in time i think one of your best options is to find a webhost that offers automated CMS installation. This way you have a straight forward start without having to look under the hood, but are imo much better off than using a WYSIWYG html editor.

I personally would steer clear of any software/webapp that advertises itself as a web(site) builder. These things tend to be outdated, may lack browser compatibility, and are very much a dying market. CMS will continue to grow and be around in the foreseeable future, and you will be able to expand your website with emerging web technology (a lot coming right now) without starting all over.

Here is an overview of PHP based CMS, you can't go wrong with most of them (Drupal, Joomla!, Wordpess are very popular to my knowledge). Just check with your webhost of choice on what is being offered.
