is it possible to create 'simple polygon' trees in your cad software, which then can be
replaced with 'high polygon' trees within maxwell studio. This would be similar to a 'replace cell' command
found in most cad programs.

I have a project which has a large park with lots of trees. I would like to place the trees (and name them)
in my cad program because it is easier to modify, make changes etc. When I bring this model into
maxwell studio, I would like to 'globally' exchange the simple polygons trees with detailed evermotion trees
without having to manually place each one.

any guidance would be appreciated.

I would just use instances, dont know of any workflow like you are talking about, clip maps might be better for trees in the distance, keep your poly count down anyway.

What cad program are you using? I think for now the Rhino plugin has this functionality, letting you replace "blocks" with your specified instances at render time. But this is something that needs to happen at the plugin level, Studio doesn't have this functionality, it just opens the mxs file.
