i think it would be highly successful if next limit released a pelethoral of software packages which catered to almost all needs of the CGI community. For example: as adobe elements provides adobe features substandard, yet similar to that of photoshop, maxwell render could provide a "quick rendering solution to the clients which need that render in a hurry". In this case, the higher priced and more time consuming - yet better and higher quality render program, could be used by clients who have the extra time to render their projects for that added realism.

i believe that from a business point of view, if maxwell could provide a software solution for almost all rendering options, it could find itself dominating a fair share of both markets.

So you want to take away precious design/development time from Maxwell so that they can focus on developing a new engine from scratch that can compete with the many many other biased engines on the market? Makes no sense to me.

Maxwell is the best at what it does. Why compromise that?

I agree with Bubbaloo on this one. True, rendering with Maxwell takes quite a lot of time. But hey, the results are great.

As far as I'm concerned, NL should stick to it's approach, and concentrate on refining it's product and fixing bugs (!!).

We've been promised a RS2..... This is the goal now!....And maybe a something like real-time preview like some competitors want to make...

I think every new release of Maxwell will be a bit faster than the previous one, and every new pc you buy will be faster than your old one. I think that in the end all render engines will be pretty quick and time will not be such a great matter, but quality matters. I wonder if we still will be complaining about rendering times in a couple of years...? (probably: yes... )

Yes, once we're up to speed with unbiased light calculation, they're gonna go into quantum mechanics, so double-slit experiments behave properly. Dispersion patterns just won't cut it in 2035.

The way i see it, we're still having a shitload of CPU advancements ahead, even if we assume that the miniaturization comes to an end in the two digit nm range. They won't be able to keep these calculations slow, no way.

Actually what really makes the difference, is us.... How much we want to spend time modeling, applying materials, etc....

ok i stand corrected.

i think the point bubba and others that you have made is pretty true, i forget sometimes that one of the main reasons that users choose maxwell over another because it is the best, but also because its not what you would call "mainstream" media saturated software. i myself for instance chose to use maxwell because of the obvious reason that it looked truely amazing, but also because it was the underdog. whats better than learning a program that not many people know how to use.
