Hi: this started as a small excercise using 2,000 instanced trees (about 200 million polygons) that turned out into this image.
Render time was about 2 hours 30m.
Dual Xeon 3.2GHZ dualcore, 4gb DDRAM.

Leonardo: Sure, maxwell can render even more!!. More than 3dsmax can handle, I had to use cloned boxes as placeholders with an xref (the tree) attached.

You're right, this image shows only a few trees, but I rendered an aerial view, with all the trees in it, but it is not as interesting as this one. If you want to see the real power of maxwell instances check an image by Tom who rendered thousands of Buddhas.
