there is this:

I have a few windows boxes and everything I've read indicates that 3GB is the upper most you can expect to get at in any sort of stable real world sort of way. Your running windows on a Mac... all bets are off. I would suggest contacting someone at Apple. Or at the least searching their tech support FAQs for such a question.

Really, the only surefire way to use windows with 2GB+ of RAM without hoop jumping and crashiness is 64 bit.

good luck. btw, you will be stuck with 2GB per application anyway even if you got that sucker working... so I don't know how much benefit that would be for maxwell.

It might be possible that it's simply not showing the ram that's allocated for hardware. On my Dual Opteron, if you don't switch a bios setting you'll be missing something like 1 gb out of 4gb because of memory that's dedicated to running devices. It might be that a similar issue is taking place with the mac, even though I believe they use efi instead of bios-but i haven't played with one that deeply.

right, no bios on the macpro--I don't know if the 3GB switch will work…just wait until leopard comes out (full 64bit) then do all your work on the XP side and the rendering on the OSX side…though that may not be all that convenient unless you're using parallels or if BootCamp gets heavily updated
