Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

This is a noobish question, but I'm sure there's some way to do this. I use Solidworks, and I need to render a carving, which I only have a photo of. Trying to model it would be extremely difficult and take too much of my time. Is there any program that would allow me to displace a grayscale image into actual polygon geometry that I could bring into Studio? And oh yeah, it needs to be either free or very cheap- I can't buy a seat of 3DSMax just to do this.
