Reminds me of devices in a screenplay I wrote back in '95 about a Renaissance-era superspy equipped by da Vinci, led by Machiavelli, and fighting (depending on the draft) either an angry Byzantine armed with the knowledge of germ theory and The Plague, or an angry Italian who is inventing the concept of organized crime and armed with an ancient magnetic rail gun.
