Hi,

I recently purchased an ipod shuffle and my os is Vista Home Premium 32bit
I Plugged the ipod into my computer to charge up before transfering any songs! My computer switched itself off and when switching it back on my monitor wont come on and my usb ports seem as if they dont work either?

The dvd, hardrive seems to be working and the processor.

Is seems motherboard related to me as no usbs arent powering up and probably the pci slot is busted to thats why the monitor isnt responding when pc is switched on!

Maybe you guys have some suggestions what else it could be?

Silly question but could the ipod have back fired the charging power and fry part of my motherboard?

I doubt that is has anything to do with the Ipod. If you were away from your computer... Could have been a power surge. Do you have a Surge protector or a battery surge?
Thst is the only one thing that could create so much damage so sudenly, unless is an actualy hardware issue.

Unfortunatly I dont have a surge protector or battery surge - My screen, keyboard and mouse works in any other computer, Do you recon that the power supply is damaged? or the motherboard?

It does seem as if part of the motherboard isnt getting the power to the usb ports and my graphics card! hence the lack of powering up

Cause even plugin in another graphics card has the same result!

OK if you've tried unplugging and plunging your computer and nothing came up .

This sounds like ESD to me. Maybe the shielding of the USB plug wasn't grounded?

A second thing could be that the USB connector on your case (if it was a new computer and a front usb connector) was wired wrong and when you plugged the thing you short cut the wires.

Describe things a bit better and maybe we can help you.

I agree with markps - I've seen people plug the front panel usb connectors in wrong and fry stuff - definately check the internal wiring.

Also, sometimes ribbon cables etc. just fall of or come loose, so check all your internal connectors.
