It is good, but if you use MAX, I also suggest forest pack lite from www.itoosoft.com
Although it uses planes and clipmaps, the automatic "look at" function and some other tools are great and the rendering times are faster.
As for the clipmaps, they are much cheaper than 3d trees, also there are some free.

tha itoosoft site is great. Not only is the Forest Pack Lite good but the ColorEdge and Glue plugins are a life saver!
