Hi

It been a long time since i created any 3d at all, atleast 3 months now. Now it's time to resume modeling and all that fun stuff again :) this time i'm aiming for a reproduction of my computer speakersystem, it's a small 2.1 Logitech system, nothing really fancy. Just cheap stuff..

Anyways the modeling is being done with Rhino 4 and i try to make it as exact as i possibly can by eyeing out all the details from the speaker on my desk. Accuracy should be approx 99% :)

I'll include a couple of reference photos for you guys to look at until i post a few screenshots and renderings.

Looking great as always, Max. Are you planning on a trans map for the grill? I did something similar a while back and had some trouble. I'd be interested to see your approach :D

4Hero: Thanks :) but it's far from always i do nice work, this is just a smaller quicker modeling and rendering thingy to get me started again after a couple of months of no 3d at all. Keep your eyes open for updates..

Doc: Thanks! :) yeap i think a transparencymapped grill is the only way to go. Modeling the grill would be overkill and it'd shoot the polycount trough the stratosphere and beyond :D ..but one thing at a time, first of all the model gotta be as close to perfect as it can be and then i'll deal with materials and textures and the studiosetup.

pwrdesign: Thank you! :) more to come now..

Below the speakerstand is pretty much finished, some minor tweaks left to do..

Here's the reference photo of the underside of the speaker stand.

This shows the preparation stage of the speaker body, lines show where i'll chop it up and where the speakercones will be placed. I do it like this to get a better view of the total model, call it a rough sketch but it works.

And more will come once i finished the speaker body in a while..

What are you modelling in?

Is that writing part of the mesh?

Nice work so far, should be a good final render with so much detail :D

Whippy: Yes as macray said i'm modeling in Rhino 4.0, all the text you see on the baseplate is a part of the mesh. Thanks :) i'm glad to hear you like it so far..

sandykoufax: Thanks alot :) i'm trying to achieve your level of accuracy.

Jeff: Thanks a bunch :) i appreciate the kind words.

macray: Yeap you're correct, Rhino all da way! well atleast when it comes to nurbsmodeling, for subdiv's Modo is the way to go.

One more update now tonight.. this time it's close to finished with the modeling, only thing left to do now is the thin piece of cloth coverin the front of the speaker but that's no big deal compared to the rest of the model.

Click on the thumbnails below to view the larger image, then on the page you get to click on the enlarge icon to view it fullsize if you want.

..and more to come later...

Two more late night testrenders, one clayish type closeup render which is ugly but i post it anyways and another inital materialtestrender to get a rough idea how these materials behave on the objects. All done within Rhino 4 so far..

Nico: Thanks :) nice to hear that from a Rhino Guru like yourself.

macray: Thank you :) heh.. i agree. In the smaller previews you won't see much of the noise.

Leo: Thanx :) oops! i missed that, and sorry but my server is offline as i'm now on a much slower and crappier connection. Barely enough bandwidth here to check email grr.. i try to help you asap with that web thingy.

Adrian: Thanks :)

Not much of an update today, but i'm testing various materials on the model and also lightsetups to see what will work and what won't. This is after about 90 min rendering on lowprio. Still needs work and tuning.

Btw, i know i gotta do that thin net covering thingy infront of the speakercones.

So, is this a known issue?
