As I said, this is no high priority, but after some more investigation I confirm there's something wrong anyway.
Assuming time zone 0 should be GMT, sun is not at zenith at noon for 0°long, 23.45° NLat (Cancer tropic) for June 21st.

Lightwave plugin as of april 16th
Windows XP pro on intel PIV
workaround = get correct sun position by adding 7.5° to your longitude (not sure if equation of time is accounted for, though).
