its not about cheating caustics ( which to be honest im not that bothered with )
its more about getting the surface texture right, like i said when this first started i saw the reflections now its clear, too clear :D
i shall sort it sooner or later

I am having the same issue with ags on one of my projects also. It becomes so clear looking and looses the reflections even if I crank up the one layer to 30 or 40 on the weightmap for the reflective layer of the material.

Personally I think it's just a product of the lack of refraction in AGS materials, I had the same problem recently. I now only use AGS in very limited circumstances [window glass as seen from the inside of a building, for instance].
I would imagine using a 1.33refraction surface on that pool would make a mass of difference. :)
