I started having similar problems with Maya crashing out on save yesterday when I switched a file from 6.01 to 6.5 Are you using 6.5? I spent quite a bit of time trying to find a solution yesterday but I must admit I never thought of turning off Maxwell or Mental Ray. I'll give it ago.

Turns out my problem is down to the amount of dwg files I have in the scene, once I delete them all works fine. Post a report with Alias, it worked fine in 6.01

Matt if you are noticing camera wonkiness - keep reloading your Maxwell scene and they will clear up.
