- under some cam angles the fire look flat...
It is flat!
- the brown leather looks like chocolate a bit (yum yum)
I'll take that as a compliment coming from the food renderer himself! :D
It's a leather material I pulled off of the mxm site.
- maybe try to add a bit of color to the glass table... too transparent..
I used "low grade glass" from the wizard which gives it a colored edge.
Before, I used high grade glass and it was even more clear.

Thanks for the comments!

Mathias: I will have to check on sizes Monday. I don't think the mxs files were too big, but the mxi files are 3-4 gb! (Multilight)

sandykoufax: Thanks!

New revision of the Clarehouse project (revision 8!) on first page.
I had only 2 days to make major structural changes and material changes. I would have liked to use displacement for the stone and siding, but time didn't allow it.

Here is my latest modeling practice. It is a Garrity flashlight. Modeled in Max 2008. I tried (repeatedly) to model the fluted edges with polygons, but finally after about the 5th time, I gave up and used boolean.
Comments and critiques welcome!

Fantastic flashlight
The only thing that bothers me is the rope - it's shape is a bit strange.
Yeah, and the red button material, too.
But as for the rest, I agree - looks like a photo!!!
Great job.

Hey Brian that looks great and you ripped it out pretty quickly considering it was a personal side line project.

As above the second image is the best may be angle or the distance from the camera... but with the light coming from it makes it look cool!!!!

just for kicks what does the real light look like when it is turned on :)

snap a picture and see if the the picture is as realistic as your rendering :)

Pretty close, considering the way I just "eyed" the cone measurements.
I think it would be pretty easy to match it by making some small adjustments to the cone.

Wow - very close. A fair bit of sublte caustic type things going on in the photo, but if you hadn't seen that you probably wouldn't be able to tell.
