it's uses Fire, but runs under Maxwell render, so you can set time (over 999 secs.), exact image size, control ISO/shutter speed during render etc...
So, there's solution for everyone who wanted to do the 'final shots' or animations with Fire.

ahh no shit.. i ddint even notice.. thanks for callin attentino to it!

Hello, been out from the forums for a couple of years, but this new release has gave me no excuse to pay the upgrade price, i left of at V1.7.

The interactive window has let me achieve this image in just some minutes, eliminating to zero the need to pre render or render the image just to let me know what was happening.

This is by far the best release Maxwellrender team has done.

Done with the demo, soon upgrading as my best Xmas present.

mmh... i didn't notice the draft-option before your post m-Que - thanks for the hint.

now i ran a short test, rendering the same scene to the same SL (sl11 and sl14) with both options... render time is nearly the same, the draft mode is a bit SLOWER!
when i compare the two resulting images, they have nearly the same amount of noise. The draft render looks a bit sharper, more pixelated or less antialiased.
The draft image wasn't saved automatically, i had to this manually.

so what's the benefit of the draft mode? :?:

@numerobis - Did you hit render (not fire button) after setting the scene to draft mode!? benefit of the draft render is your able to set render size and tweak iso etc while its rendering and its quicker :)

mmh... this doesn't work for me!?!
ISO ok... as usual - but render size and quicker...?!?

Good looking quickrender too!

m-Que: That's a quickrender ? it's not looking like it..

Thank you Maximus3D, i remember you of course, its great to be back and so exited with this version, it feel just like back to the early alpha stages when maxwellrender was born, i bought the license back then.

A couple more, drag and drop texture is incredible and the lightning fast material preview makes life just so much easy inside maxwell.

You just set everything like for an ordinary render, but under 'quality' select 'draft' instead of 'production' and hit render (not Fire)

Did anybody notice the lock icon in the material editor window :)

Image

Click it and change the colour of a material or insert a texture (updates as you edit) very fast in draft mode! haha

it priortizes the material editor to the interactive preview

I seem to have problems with caustics in Fire -
did some tests with very simple scenes and looks like there're no caustics at all when using physical sky. When using IBL or emitters, caustics are visible but are being displayed in a form of fireflies. :?
Am I doing something wrong?
What are you experiences, guys?

that is why it works so fast ;) no heavy caustic's computation . it was mentioned earlier few times

some of my first tests... all rendered on a 2.0ghz core duo laptop, as i have not installed 2.5 on my workstations yet...
anyway all these only took some minutes...

looks like caustics do work in this case.

same image rendered over lunchbreak (sl20) :

and something else i was very surprised by... motion blurred emitter :P (moving sphere)

Hello everybody,

About caustics: Yes, Maxwell Fire gives priority to direct and indirect lighting in the first samples for faster and more interactive response, and leaves features like caustics for samples afterwards. This means that both Fire and Maxwell Render will converge to the same result, but each of them at different speed. The caustics appear faster in Maxwell Render, while direct and indirect lighting is resolved faster in Fire. This is the way Fire is that fast and allows interactive response while it keeps being a physically correct engine.
All materials that present caustics will show that "caustic noise" in Fire, but it is not that important for previewing purposes.

About the lock icon: as Tea_Bag commented, it takes Fire to the Material Editor preview window, allowing you to see the changes in the actual material interactively. When it is unlocked, Fire goes back to the main Interactive window, showing your material changes in the Interactive window, while you are adjusting it.
You may need one option or the other depending on each situation.

And about re-voxeling each time you move an object or emitter: Each time you move an object or emitter, Maxwell Fire needs to re-voxelize the scene (as the position of objects have changed). The voxelization process takes longer when the scene geometry is more complex.
So, if you are experiencing slow voxelization in some scene when moving an object or an emitter, I strongly suggest you to hide some objects that don't affect directly to the object you are adjusting, to make faster voxelizations, and once you are ok with that object or light, unhide the hidden objects to get the whole scene.
This is an smarter woraround than wait lot of seconds in each voxelization.

I'm glad to hear that you are happy with this new tool.

Greetings to all.
