What became of the licensing for Vista? Last time it was even worse for OEM versions of Vista. I think you were only allowed to upgrade your hardware once, and redo the authentication, after that you had buy it again....or something like that.

The new license has removed this language relating to device transfers, and now reads: "You may install one copy of the software on the licensed device. You may use the software on up to two processors on that device at one time.

I think that MS really needs to re-vist the two processor limit. It's unreasonable to expect folks to buy a Server 2003 Enterprise edition (or whatever) OS in order to run a high-end quad or eight socket machine as there are on the market now. Especially as the companies making those systems are targeting the graphics world along with the server folks.

I don't think there are that many workstations offered with quadsocket motherboards. Probably a very small number. You would pay just for the motherboard almost what a complete quadcore QX6700 system costs...

With dual socket quadcores you have an 8 core machine. This is a pretty amazing increase in speed over a period of only one and a half years.

But is this full version Windows Vista Ultimate? In that case it means I'll have to pay 550 euros just to be able to take full advantage of my quadcore system, because I've read that only the Ultimate version really knows how to efficently cope with multicores. That smells like Bill Gates thinking: "Those who are able to buy a multicore system are also able to spend more money on my Windows".

windows Vista comes fully hacked. Hacked out of the box. That way you dont loose endless hours wondering if you've been hacked or get stressed out worrying about vulnerability problems.

Metin, OEM version or "full" version, it's exactly the same in functionality. You can buy the OEM version whenever you buy some hardware, like a mouse, keyboard, graphics card etc...Although I heard with Vista these conditions are tougher now and you can't buy just any hardware to be able to buy the OEM version of Vista. It has to be an internal component like a cpu or motherboard.

Without applications, an OS is just a GUI file & network manager ...besides polishing up UI and giving the user better tools to manage those two things, progress is really about providing better facilities for developers. I'm excited about Vista in that regard.

Can't agree with you.

OS is the thing that controls and coordinates the work of all the applications - in this part Windows was never the best. Memory leaks, poor multitasking, poor GUI and network manager.
In fact, it is totally ok to work with it for me... I did it for a long time, and sometimes do it now... For me it just slows things down... Sadly.
