A different test i did, a unscientific 'comparison' between Maxwell's and Modo's subscattering.
I'm not going to reveal yet which one is which, i leave it up to you guys to guess if you want to. :)
I did my best in replicating materials between both engines to match both settings and values as close as possible to get results which matches eachother.

I'm crazy enough to say the one on the left is Maxwell. :P

I think Maxwell 's one is the left render.

But the finish of the bleue/grey sphere inside is not the same so, I think that this comparison is not valid because the will not bounce in the same way with the sss material.
And what is the artifact on the left bottom part in the left image? near the bleue/grey base

surely the left one is the best... is it maxell?

I have to admit that the left one is Modo and the right one is Maxwell. Sorry guys :(

About the surfacefinish of the centersphere, yes it's different but the difference is still marginal and it doesn't matter that much in a test like this. That artifact you are talking about is not a artifact, it's a airbubble near the surface of the main sphere. If you are talking about the line on the floor pointing towards the lower left corner, it's not a artifact, it's a seam in the floor as the testsubject is originally placed in what is a cardboardbox model. That's where the seam originates from.

Maxwell rendering - 6 hours, 22 minutes, 54 seconds (but it was clean much earlier)

Modo rendering - 1 hour, 8 minutes, 19 seconds

Keep in mind that the Modo version required more tweaking and testing to reach similar results to the Maxwell version, this time should be taken into consideration if you compare the rendertimes.

Fear not, this is still a very unscientific test and nothing you should really base any judgement upon. Take it with a huge spoon of salt. :)
I will continue to tweak all Maxwell materials further to match the results better and closer to the Modo version. Just give me a bit of time to get it all sorted.

I'll be back.. :]

Looking forward to it, that render isn't doing Maxwell justice yet. Good luck Magnus!

That's true, it's not doing Maxwell justice and by now we all know that Maxwell's subscattering is very capable and fully usable. What my example above more illustrates is what happens when you attempt at do a direct manual translation of SSS values from Maxwell to Modo. A direct translation of the values fails as you will not get the same looking results in both engines. The goal is not really to compare SSS results of Maxwell and Modo but more to find what 'formula' i need to use when translating Modo materials to Maxwell. You could call it the Holy Grail of MXM creation because if i can translate one way than i can reverse it and translate materials the other way. :)

See, I'm crazy  Because, I knew this would happen. Otherwise drawing such a comparison would make no sense otherwise. :)
