I bought a macbook pro a month ago and spend some 3000 euros.

I know it is expensive, but

- I need it for rendering with maxwell at work, we don´t have it yet as office software, just my private license.

- I need the 2.6 GHz for rendering

- It is the flatest and lightest notebook in its league

- and hey it is a mac, though I run mostley windows on it :(( (hope rhino gets fully coded for OSX soon)

;)

You know, I could have really use one of those laptops back when I had to walk 40min each way in Rome, Italy to go to class...

Instead I had a PIII 1.0 Ghz that weighted like a MoFo

the point is that the macbook «air» was especially built to work wirelessly... the word air comes from «air-port», the apple name for their wirelessLAN solution.
that's now a perfect sample for «nomen est omen».

--> just watch that introduction then You'll know more... :)

macs and their price tags... an old discussion. but i also guess that the totally streamlined air/heat flows inside a mac (imagine in the macBook air !!!) just has to be designed. (check out some i-mac or mac book motherboard photos on google - you'll be amazed !) surely based on the components, a mac today is «just» a pc, but it's about the design and layout of the elements !
that costs a lot in production ! anyone sitting next to a mac pro ? checked out how damn silent these boxes are ?

and certainly ... you'll NEVER care about drivers again and most important: virae ! did someone ever hear about a virus on a mac ? hmmm... yeah, back on OS 6 or so...

so anyone wanting an alienware laptop with is ready to pay a «little» more too for the aspect of design / looks

back a few (~8 i guess) years when the first macs came out that had no more floppy. i thought: «how can they»... but it turned out to be well-foreseen and today i think a floppy is useless.
technologies change !

I think you should imagine it as a satellite for your main machine. The price is absolutely worth to be paid when you need a super-portable, light and thin enough to be carried easily in your bag or sack, with yet a wide screen. It's not a platform for hardcore users, as 3dfolks are, but you will know that internet, Word, Powerpoint and maybe Excel are enough for most of the people out there, people that spend their nights sleeping rather than keeping on fine-tuning that damned glossy wooden floor!
