Thanks for all the sarcastic replies. The forums get worse with people commenting in this way.

If manuals are not needed, why were they provided and used in the early days?

I would like to know?
-Is the smax materials converted to maxwell or are maxwell textures only used?
-how do you apply a maxwell material?
-how are maxwell materials placed/moved on components?
-how are uv maps made with maxwell materials?

-To export to studio do you need to save .mxi and open in studio, or can you do it directly from max?

Yes, but up to the moment only standard max material is converted.
-how do you apply a maxwell material?
Just like any other material in max; in max you have standard material, architectural, blend,... now you also have one called maxwell material which is pretty much like mxed (but with a 3dsmax look); you can import mxm files from there too.
-how are maxwell materials placed/moved on components?
Dude, if you know how to do it with 3dsmax materials you know how to do it with maxwell materials; it's just the same: drag the material to the object or hit the button apply material to selection.
-how are uv maps made with maxwell materials?
Maxwell uses 3dsmax's (modifiers> UVWmap)
-To export to studio do you need to save .mxi and open in studio, or can you do it directly from max?
This is one thing that should be included in manual; you have to export (file > export) as .mxs and open in studio; you can launch render from max too if you prefer.

Some of the things you asked are just max basics but I agree that a small manual should be made showing basic workflow and some particularities of the integration with max: special maxwell tabs in standard camera parameters, Maxwell tab at preferences window, export to mxs, save image file (which is made at the common tab in render window),...

I guess that's enough though it's hard to find through the main site. Press section? > news > Maxwell updates section. I think it should be at Download > tutorials.
