I am in Mya using the plugin. I created a mawell shader and added an emitter and made it a texture emmitter then loaded a JpG as the MXI/HDR file.

I guess I am trying to make an emmitter out of an image file like you did and must be messing up on the steps... does the image file have to be an MXI file... if so I do I make a JPG an image file. Maybe its a newbie question... i have just never done it.

Thanks

Sunlight Said: Did you really open the -jpg in the renderer and resave it as an .mxi?

You are right I did not take it into anything. Do you mean like Maxwel Studio. Or the material Editor... and if so once you bring it in can you just export it out as .mxi?

i.e. Is it a one step process Import JPG. Export MIX or do you have ot stick it on something?

Thanks Again

Hi Peter,

Open mxcl.exe (type 'mxcl -d' at a command prompt), and in the file menu, choose 'load image'. You can adjust the exposure/intensity, and then choose 'save mxi' from the file menu again. Now you can load the .mxi you just created into the emitter material. :)

Yep that did it. Now I have a "rainbvow light source emmtitting from a polygon... far cry from the beautiful lighting test you did... but getting there slowly. I made another MXI that was converted from a photoshop jpg that was just a white background with two sizeable balck squares in them. I was trying to simulate what a hole in a wall might look like as light from the outside came in on the ground. (I know I could make a wall with holes in it and put and emmitter or have physical sky form the outside) BUT I was trying to see if I can make a light that has a "pattern" to it (is it called a gobo?) Anyway..... my light from the polygon that has that particular emmitter assigned to it seems to be acting just as a single light with no black areas in it. i.e no holes... You mentioned you played with the UVs... Does that mean you have to assign the MXI to a UV map generated from the polygon? Where I get confusd with that is that if I have a single UV polygon with an MXI assigned to it... would not the "image" just force fit to the polygon and have black lightless regions" on it?

Thanks Again... this forum rocks

I made a better resolution MXI and faced it down towards a ground plane really close and sure enough the "pattern" showed up. So now I just need to practice as much as everyone else does in order to use this idea effectively.

Still woudl love a response on the UV question... but not urgent

Thanks

Since you work in Rhino, And I have never used that program, AND the fact that Im not very good at explaining things in English, Im afraid Im not able to help you sooo very much. But Im sure you will get there, and there is for sure someone here on the forum that could give you a kick in the right direction.

Thanks for your help to date... it has been invaluable. And if I tried to offer anyone help in Swedish... well it would be NO HELP AT ALL.

Thanks Again
