What do you guys think of adding an arbitrary image to each material, besides the test scene image? So a user should add the default image and if they want, they could upload an additional image showing how it worked in their particular scene. The link to the image could be right under the test scene image so it doesn't take up too much space on the page.

yes the rating system is a bit unrealistic. At least it is dying down a bit, in the beginning people were rating too high, and now they're being too critical. People should take a little more care and only rate a material if they use it, afterall how else can you tell if it works.

I wouldn't mind seeing a comments section added to materials so you can leave a note to complient or tag missing maps, suggest or request improvements etc. It would of course have to be moderated by the material owner so they can remove derogatory comments.

Mihai of course you already know that you can add HTML tags to the keywords section, and can therefor add an image if you want.
I added this image since the standard display object didn't do my diamond materials justice and they recieved a poor rating (ok the render isn't brilliant either but it demonstrates that the two materials provide good results)

I think that idea is perfect

i already added link of images made with that material.

But the material i added the link is the image on the top and the rate was mediocre 6.5 i think... but if appears the image not the link i think will be so different.

don't stop uploading materials...i'm much more interested in basic materials than the 'slimy-anus-with-crumbs-of-poo-material'..i agree it looks great but i can't use it for product renderings.

I think it's better if the second image is added in a standard way, otherwise some people may load images too small or too big in the description. Things can get messy quickly.
