Hello Neil,
The MXS files can only be saved by Maxwell or its plugins. You can use other formats such as FBX, DAE or OBJ.
The problem with Solidworks is that it doesn't have many exporting options to common formats like those I mentioned. The only ones which Studio can import are STL and DXF which are not very comfortable (especially DXF). However, I made a search for some exporters for SW and found out that there are some: a free one to OBJ:
https://forum.solidworks.com/thread/54270, a paid one to FBX:
https://www.simlab-soft.com/3d-plugins/ ... -main.aspx or DAE (collada):
https://www.simlab-soft.com/3d-plugins/ ... -main.aspx
I have not tried these, but they may come in useful.
Another option is using the Asset Reference extension object included in Studio, which offers other format options; however, this one does not import the object but syncs it keeping the material assignments. I noticed a common format between SW and MW: IFC. I haven't tested this one either, but it's another option. Here is more information about the Asset Reference to understand how it works:
https://blog.maxwellrender.com/tips/how ... ll-studio/ Again, in this case, FBX, DAE or OBJ are the best options as they also import the materials. Maybe IFC too.
I hope this helps.
Best regards,
Fernando
