Are you using Maxwell 2.6.10?

Maxwell 2.6 was considerably more complex to use -- but this update to Maxwell has alleviated that.

Fire will not use the information from the HDR Light Studio canvas until you change something (color, position, etc) -- the easiest way is to simply disable and enable the background... I think this is about putting focus into the HDR Light Studio interface (but I could be way off on that).

Jason.

yeah i'm on 2.61... that seems to be the issue. On another note, are there any known stability issues in general? Ever since version 3 of HDR Light Studio, it crashes maxwell render nearly everytime I use it. Sometimes when I add a new light, Sometimes if i'm dragging lights, sometimes if I drag the sliders...pretty much anything i do.

As expensive as this plugin is, I wish it were more stable. :(

I doing a render right now where I setup 27 circular synthetic lights over a HDR (dosch) used as a background and used FIRE for feedback the whole time -- I didn't even see so much as a slowdown, let alone any kind of crash.

I'm really not seeing the issues you are reporting on my end... very strange.

Jason.

You should first try to do a proper uninstallation, cleaning leftover files and registry entries and then reinstall it all again. See if you can replicate the same crashes, if it still crashes for you then file your detailed bugreports to both developers.

Half Life: Thanks for that video, the integration looks more refined and better now compared to before. Now just the HDRLight Studio application is missing for me. :)

Good advice -- BTW here is the 27 light test that I did with HDR Light studio... basically I was testing to see if it was going to work out for a big space battle scene with fireball explosions.

I'm satisfied, and I just got some dosch space HDRs which in combination with HDR Light studio should work well -- so I think I can resume working on this project.

Best,
Jason.

Jason two questions. And I'm using Version 2.6 if that matters?

1) How do you have your interactive preview (fire) docked in your main control panel?? And so big? When I hit fire the little window pops up and in order to get it anywhere near the size of yours it's over lapping my other panels :/ Are you working on a HUGE monitor?

2) When I try and use the hdri light studio it pops up the same as yours but since I have never used it I've obviously not purchased it either. I cant render with the demo though? If I hit render a window pops up saying hdri light studio disabled?? So the demo is only to see how it works NOT to see how it works in conjunction with our projects??

Thanks

1) Yes -- it's a fairly good sized monitor, but I re-arranged the layout to suit me.

2) You can only preview how it works with FIRE and that with the red watermark... it's far from ideal which is part of the reason why I make these videos.

Maxwell v2.6 has a some issues with how it interfaces with HDR Light studio and if you do try it I would recommend only using 2.6.10 because the workflow is much improved.

Best,
Jason.

Now I've done a clean install of Maxwell and HDRI Light Studio. And after some testing found the cause of the problem. When you set quality to 5 or more, Fire often crashes when changing lamps in HDRI Light Studio. The update is to slow to follow the changes.

I have reported it to Mark and he succeeded to replicate the crash.

So until the problem is fixed use a low quality setting.
