Hi,
scattering gives a humidity halo look and diffraction should give glare around emitters.
Problem is i cant get glare look good, it's always too soft/diffuse/porno like, despite the map i chose (i have dozens).
Is there a specific technique to get crisp, shiny "stars" around emitters, instead of blurred/glowy ones ?

thanks,
Paolo

hi,
here is an example with (pic 2) and without (pic 1). look at top-right emitter, i.e: i used a non blurred, star-like aperture map and i get this glowy thing.
I keep getting this glowy look which i dont like at all. BTW here i raised it a bit to show it better, but keeping low levels doesnt help.
I dont want glow at all, i just want glares (pic3 - done in photoshop).
What i'm missing ? Being a post effect, i tend to exclude camera settings have a role (i.e. aperture, lens stop and so on), so i tried to solve it just tweaking simulens settings, with no luck.

as long as You don't do animations don,t waste time and do it in photoshop. It looks just very good.

even greatest interiors in maxwellrender showreel are heavily tweaked in photoshop, so don,t be so 3d ;)

What are your simulens settings in that 2nd image? My tests show that your best bet is probably to leave scattering at 0 (that's where most of that porn look comes from) use your star pattern for the aperture, leave the obstacle map blank and just adjust your diffraction.

hi,
i just use diffraction (scattring causes soft-porno effect, yes), and i tried with map in both channel (aperture and obstacle), or just in one.
Result is always too blurry, the "star" effect around lights is way too dreamy.
I agree it's better to do it in PS, but i wanted to konw anyway.
Times were not so high, 70 min on 4 machines and 4 multilight channels (one is off since i didnt like it).
Chandeliers are partially metal (knives... yes, it's a chandelier made of knives, not my fault here ) and a "gem" put at the end of each knife.
