When i stop, then resume a render, the result is very 'liny' and is sometimes overlaid with a previous mxi. Why is this happening and how can i stop it?

To resume an MXI you can't change anything in the scene between resuming, and make sure from the beginning of the render you have specified to save a unique MXI name, so you're not overwriting the same MXI file with a render from another scene.
