I know that there was some confusion when we changed from V1 to V2 that SLs no longer correlated, so some NL confirmation of this would be great. In the meantime I'll continue testing.
Yes, basically image quality is better "per sl" and direct comparison of SL and time is not the best comparison. Benchwell scene was really great for comparing machines, but it has never been a good tool to compare between different Maxwell releases. Why? because its a quite simple scene with simple materials. It really just evaluates number of ray per seconds the engine provides, and as such can be a great comparison between different setups or different machines. It doesn't compare performance of many areas of the engine that you can usually find in most of the scenes, and that's why you can see improvements in other scenes while it's not faster in some others. Also the following point also adds some explanation of why it could be a bit slower there.

Yes, that's one of the limitations of the new Sharpness parameter (or dynamic antialiasing). The way the samples are filtered makes the first SL to be quite dark and not very useful, but at SL 2 the visual quality is again as it should. But we really think the improvements in AA quality, added to the possibility to adjust it after render for the best results, really pay for this limitation, it brings and unmatched quality to Maxwell in any lighting or texture situation. This in-house developed technology is one of the hottest features of 2.6, at least in our opinion, and keep us ahead of any competitor also in this area.
