Most excellent there young Brian!!!

Stunning work mate! Wow I could actually use that image right now for a developments marketing brochure cover wrap. Lost out on doing the 12 renderings for it to the architects using Artlantis simply because they could supply them so quickly. :(

Look forward to learning from your leaf material.

Again mate you really do have the vegetation stuff nailed!!!

For me what usually the most difficult is to get a transparant or sss material to maintain its vivid colors. I tend to run into dark and lightabsorbing materials and correcting this in a second bsdf going back and forth without really improving things.... :?

I ran into a problem last night finishing a project. I at the last moment wanted a glass mxm to behave as an sss and made the appropriate settings. The render crashed untill I changed the mxm back into a non-sss.

Richard,
you can not compete with Maxwell to do things in a hurry were Artlantis quality is more than sufficient.

Maybe its an idea to keep a less refined renderoption available for those projects. Even a dressed down set of mxm's for quick projects. Only AGS, and image maps in the range of SU resolution and basic settings avoiding anything that might slow down rendering. I find v2 to render fast when settings are basic, especially for exterior renderings.

I haven't had the time myself yet to set up a small library of fast easily edited architectural mxm's. But its on my wish list.
My frame of mind has always been to zoom in on mxm's but when time is limited zooming out is more usefull.

Richard, I think the real problem here is that you're standards are just to darn high. Everything you post looks good. How about you start lowering the bar a bit, aim for "good enough." I find that helps my render times more than any quad-core ever could :)

i thought it was because albino primates hadn't quite adapted to modern technology yet?

Bubba,
the leaves were great but the tree does not have that same realistic power. I was struggling with this a while as well. Have still not really found a way to make leaves look good up close and on trees in the distance.
Somehow leaves are not defined by sss alone even with some surface properties added. The leaves I had made looked rather dull especially towards to top of the trees. As I see in your tree as well.
Maybe its a modeling issue were more leaves need to be directed in different directions.
Any ideas or are you actually satisfied as they are now ?. I only have this image posted by you of a complete tree.

yes, that might be it. reducing the sss, making it less transparent would work.

I was hoping to find a way to get them right in both light situations. I have expiremented but I somehow could not reflect back enough light once it was absorbed by the sss effect. At least that was my theory.
