Do you have displacement in the scene?

No. Got it to work finially and it looks awful, ill post it later...looks like all lights are messed up AGS glass looks terrible...i dont know what is going on. Maybe i just need to start from scratch...or they have changed material settings, not happy right now.

It's possible it could affect things. Uncheck it and see if it helps. I always keep it unchecked unless I specifically need it (in Max).

I'd love to try it, but can't find the mac version. only windows versions show up when I go to the downloads page that was sent in the email. I'm probably doing something stupid.

Hi, you can only install a full upgrade on the mac. If you select the small upgrade only Windows will appear as an option. I am guessing this might be what is causing confusion.

I would love to see some more renderporn 8)
I have this WIP that I unfortunately couldn't finish in time!:

Image

Almost everything is created using the hair system; the grass, bushes, vines on the wall, sprouty plant and the flamingo sculpture wires!

I was just playing around with how many ways I could use the hair in Maya. I was planning on adding particle berries/buds to the bushes
and much more randomness. It renders fast too!

How are the wires created from hair? I need to learn more about Maya hair uses.

I will try to put up a tutorial in the near future on a lot of the new stuff in relation to Maya, but basically because Maya Hair
uses paintFX strokes to render, Maxwell renders hair by converting the paintFX strokes to Maxwell hair. This means that
(basic!) traditional paintFX can be rendered as Maxwell hair too. So all I had to do was draw NURBS curves and apply paintFX
brushes to them! More or less anyway!

Hi all,

Just a little question regarding this great 2.6 update:

Is the SSS has been optimized as the Meindbender studio mentioned it in their "pirate short movie" interview? :

"we also got a beta containing the new SSS algorithms in Maxwell. Compared to where it is now in the released version inside 2.6, now it wasnt optimized just yet in terms of speed, especially in combination with displacement...

It's not mentioned in the new's 2.6 list .
Or maybe it has been delayed for the next one?

Anyway , good job NL. congrat!

Meindbender started working in the pirate movie before we released v2.5. We gave them a version that was some sort of hybrid between 2.5 and 2.6. The improvements in SSS Michael is talking about were mostly included in 2.5. However now they are more noticeable because two reasons. First in 2.6 there are pretty big enhancements in image processing so in general chromatic noise is lower. Second, they were using sss and displacement together, and with the new displacement algorithms renders are much faster, 3x-10x by average (if you have enough memory).
