I think they mean that the translation from rgb to spectral is not as obvious as it may seem specially when dealing with blue colors; so, if you want to get a full control of the final color and how it attenuates, the more convenient way is through color multilight, so you immediately see the translation.

Yes, Color Multilight is more accurate in general. But, the difference is visible only with a few certain cases and blue/purple issue one of them. 99% of the time you won't see a difference.
