I just got a crash too. I opened studio and started playing with HLS before realizing I hadn't created a camera. When I created a camera it crashed.

Seems like cool software and it's well integrated imo (based on the 45 seconds I played with it before it crashed). So long as NL continues to beef up and stabilize the core engine I have no issue with adding these sorts of side features like Realflow and now HLS. So far the features aren't geared towards ArchViz so I'll never use them and selfishly wish that they'd integrate something like this which would help me out. But, honestly, I can't think of any sort of integration with another software that would help with archviz work.

Not knowing the guts of the render engine I can only speculate -- but it seems to me that in the long run all these variances will be worked out and any lighting combination will work as we all expect... with more-or-less equal efficiency.

I think the bulk of those recommendation were revolving around the buggy use of SSS in 2.0 which has been fixed in 2.5 and later... I stopped those recommendations the day 2.5 was released. So yes, I would say that is obsolete... I would simply use physical sky instead of outputting an HDR unless you plan to composite via HDR studio... HDR emitter planes are also a good option.

BTW, (according to JD) Rhino native lights are still not recommended (they work, but are not best quality)... which seems like a Rhino to plugin issue and not a Maxwell issue. In that regard studio and Sketchup and Rhino all use emitter planes for best results and therefor are equal in efficiency of manipulation and setup. See here: http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... 05&t=36043 (11th post down.)

Best,
Jason.

Hey Brodie, imagine Ozone http://www.e-onsoftware.com/products/ozone/ozone_5.0/ plus HLS  I also think integration of Substance Designer into MXED would be cool for materials (I'm a bit biased there  )... give me some time and I could find a few more :D

Jason.

I missed the obvious one! What about a UV unwrap utility as a plugin? There are many to choose from and it could integrate in much the same way.

I would love a ZBrush plugin, where you could export geometry to ZBrush from Studio using GoZ and modify the UV's, geometry, and MXED material reflectance, bump, normal, or displacement maps to export back into studio automatically

Jason.

*calling upon my super strength to remove myself from underneath the pressing weight of suggestions*

I should have known you'd have some ideas half life :) Those all sound awesome, I should have thought of the sky improvements, those are much needed. The rest of those sound pretty awesome as well. The good thing I see with this development is NL's willingness to integrate other great software, which suggests that some of these other suggestions are certain possibilities. I'm sure there's a balancing act as you wouldn't want to rely too much on software you can't control though. To that extent I'd wonder about NL's willingness to integrate a sky solution rather than developing one themselves. But now I'm getting deep into speculation.

Once I get revved up I can over-do it  -- Honestly I think in proper time all of these things (or things like them) will be found in Maxwell... we are still at the beginning with Maxwell so to speak, but the HDR Light Studio integration is a great step in the right direction as far as I am concerned.

Thank-you dev team!

Jason.

I'm thinking about writing a phpbb script that will auto-ban a person if they use '+1' more than once in any given 24 hour span.

If I were a lesser man, this is where I would say "+1"
