Here's a test -- get a cheap small HD (you may even have one laying around already) install nothing on it but your operating system and Maxwell and see if the problem still occurs. The only way I could see any virus/Trojan using Maxwell is maybe through networking... but I think maybe if that was a Maxwell specific issue alot more people would be reporting the same thing (including me).

Also a Trojan can be "cleaned" and still be active -- as soon as you connect to the internet it will just re-download itself all over again.

Best,
Jason.

I will say that I've had quite alot of experience with this type of stuff and inevitably the best thing to do is simply put all your files on a backup and do a clean install.

I used to work tech support for a major university and we would do a clean install on all our lab machines every break.

Best,
Jason.

Jakob, I suggest you don't turn on Simulens while rendering (except devignetting) because Maxwell has to also re-calculate the diffraction/scattering with each incremental image update, so you end up with longer render time. For high rez images it can take a while to do the diffraction each time and uses a lot of memory. You can always stop the render, turn on Simulens to check how it looks, disable it and resume the render. Memory usage shouldn't increase with time though so it looks like a bug there.
