How to create an economical workflow is really the issue for me...knowing that in the past I've spent a whole lot of time testing, testing, testing and then even more testing, of renders -- does it get any easier or is just faster which gives me more time to do even more testing with a new workflow? Maybe it's geared more for design offices with larger budgets.

I want to get behind this service...is it far fetched to ask of a scenario where someone doing design work has developed an economical workflow using this system and what might that look like?

Hi softroom.
We have almost ready our own rhino exporter. We are adding the advanced tessellation parameters in this days.
Beside from that you can replace geometries as many times as you need without any need to rebuild the mappings.
Felix remembers the mappings i a way which enables to replace geometries. You loose certain mappings only if you reduce the polycount of the mapped surface. If you increase the polycount you don't lose it. But this happens only with the spline based UV mappings.
Now the interesting thing is that Felix not only allows you to have tons of updates in your project. Felix stores each geometry update, each material or lighting change and all cameras in the renderings you do, and it allows you to retrieve every kind of information directly from the images.
Here is a video about the non destructive workflow.

Thank you!

Unfortunately we have still to collect the info you are asking for.
Anyway with Felix you do less testings. The ability to cross easily data between projects by simply dragging what you need from your previous works avoids a lot of troubles.

Hi Daros - thanks for your reply. I look forward to trying out the Rhino workflow. Presumably you are thinking of .3dm importer for your system rather than a complete Felix plug-in for Rhino (that would work like the Maxwell for Rhino plug-in)?

I realise now that the Felix system is more directly a cloud-based replacement for the Maxwell Studio -> Maxwell Render workflow. I fear I am a little reluctant to learn yet another interface and prefer instead to model, texture and light all in one place.

Really I am trying to think of a way to make use of your enviably powerful system while at the same time justifying my existing investment in Maxwell... Maybe we should just get you to do our visualisations instead of us!

Best of luck with the project - and congratulations on the beautiful portfolio on your website.

Hi Felix Team
I am also very interested to see how the workflow is going to work out. I bought credit to be able to log on to your website but somehow I can not get access. Are you guys still upgrading or updating your system, implementing MR 2.0 or what is the deal here? A service which I can not access when I need it most doesn't really work, I guess. Any ideas?

Cheers

Hi Q2,
we understood the problem...it was a particular symbol you entered in your info which was not digested well by some part of the code by blocking your access.
Sorry for this issue and for answering so late...
Now you should be able to enter the forum and Felix should work well.
Cheers

Hi Mcray,
yes, we are releasing a free demo version of FELIX during the next two weeks. It is a limited version of FELIX which doesn't allows to make renderings.
However you will be able to evaluate the interface, the workflow, import your geometries, the material library, assign materials, insert objects and, analyze a series of existing "demo" scenes.
cheers

I'll be looking forward to the demo. I'd been looking forward to Felix for months prior to its release but I can't see spending money to test it out so early in the game without any reviews or recommendations. It is unfortunate that the trial won't allow for renders though, as that is a very important part of the workflow. Perhaps there could be some sort of compromise? Maybe a limit of 3 renders and/or at a low resolution and low SL. Something along those lines, just to see how that part of the process works would be helpful.

I also agree with someone else who mentioned a subscription option. At my company, every time I need something I have to bother the head of the I.T. department and he has to get approval etc. Even if Felix were just what I wanted, I'm not sure I could convince them to use a credit based system. Something to consider.

Hi brodie_geers.
We would like to give some free credits. Let's see what we can do.

About he subscription fee... yes we have to find out the feasible way to do what you are asking for. It's important we know. We are looking too for some monthly payment option with paypal. By bank transfer you would have to high commission because the international wire transfer (between 30-40 Euro for each transfer).
However you could ask your boss (after you first try out) to buy the 1000 Euro contract :) . The difference between Felix and any other rendering solutions is that it doesn't gets older with time. Upgrades are for free and hardware is constantly renewed.

Great to know that you're already looking into these issues. I think Felix has some amazing potential. It would indeed be a big leap in workflow but as you say, the payoffs could be huge. No more upgrading computers and buying the latest $1500 processor, maintaining render farms, upgrading render software, etc?!

So right now you have to buy credits before you can download the program, right? Is there a particular reason for that? I would think that you'd want to get that program out to everyone you can and then let them buy the credits later if/when they want to run a rendering.

In terms of the subscription, I'd also like to recommend a yearly fee as that would probably work best for large companies such as ours.

Can't wait for a demo to try.

Felix looks very interesting and i am willing to give it a try.
but i still have some questions.

1. when i setup my scenes will i have to pay for every test render?
this is especially needed for lighting setup. so to get the proper results there are several test renders needed, i think.

2. is the object library already working and implemented?

3. i have read about direct felix eporters for Max and Rhino, will there be exporters for other apps ? (iam using c4d and formZ)

cheers

Hi Big K,
yes you have to pay for each test render about 14 cent of an euro. With 14 euro you can make 100 Test renderings.
The object library is Ready.

Everybody can contribute to make the object library growing in the same way as with Felix's materials library.
Simply go to the "Object Editor" load your objects (they have to be in meters!), assign materials, and share.
