Here is the low grade glass from Mihai downloaded from the resources page, opened in V2 MXED, no changes in settings, and rendered:

Here it is rendered in 1.7:

But, it's just a couple of clicks to create low grade glass from the wizard in V2. See:

Sorry, you're right. This is a translation mistake to be fixed. Currently, the old secondary color values of ref0 and trans are being passed to new material. This is true for high rough but not for specular materials. Thanks for reporting.

as far as mats from 1.7 translating ti v2 , most glass and transluscent plastics are not rendering as previous.
This lack of back compatibility is a huge negative as is the lack of previous sss preset mats that shipped with 1.7

Now we just need a bunch more wizards, like a mirror! I tried to make a mirror simply by using the wizard for metal > chrome with zero roughness but it just comes out matt black, same with nickel, aluminium, copper - didn't try the rest!

There is no emitter wizard either! One for ceramic would be good too!

You might want to raise the Nd to 200 or so to make it a mirror.

Can you post a screenshot, please?

Sorry Tom, I reinstalled between then and now and that ridded the problem, though still have issues with the environment slider stuck in mulitlight, increasing artifacts during rendering and the globe in studio environment going spastic!

Though now fortunately all emitters aren't replaced with other materials when opening an old file!

Cool. I still can't stop wondering how that previous installation could achieve that kind of weirdness, though. It's a misery...
Richard wrote:still have issues with the environment slider stuck in mulitlight,
Does it happen with *any* scene? Please, provide more information so I can help.
Richard wrote:increasing artifacts during rendering
What are they? A screenshot may help.

Going spastic...mmmm...like?

Emitters are replaced with other materials!? wow... Any scene you can send me doing that?

Thanks Tom

The first install was the one that replaced emitters with various other materials with more layers than one could poke a stick at.

The mirror could be replaced with any other material in scene but using metals from the wizard just rendered matt black.

Yes all files stick the emvironment slider, though not on first trial just once any change made to the scene! Even just a material tweak!

Attached is the image with the said artifacts, to the right against the sreen and around the toilet bowl. The scene doesn't contain any addative materials.

The globe in studio when trying to handle it manually the sun just sticks in one spot generally below the horizon and the globe just move around under it. The sun can be moved by changing times! Though any move of the glode manually and it jumps back to below the horizon.

I don't have a current file with the materials changed but will post you one as soon as it happens again.

Wow thats gone REALLY bright, how did you fix that in the behind the scenes thread.

Hey must say the bump response in V2 is really a very vast improvement!

Oh and yeah the environment slider is there but the value is greyed out just to prove to me that no matter how many times I try it won't budge!

BTW demo version - no watermark? Weird again! Is the resolution limited by the demo? I've set my res at 1500 x 825 and it rendered at 934 x 513?

Ok it seems that once I have a 5th emitter in the scene the environment slider sticks! Could this then be a ram related issue? Seems weird as it even occurs if the intensity only is enabled! And given then rendering at 900px isn't a great deal! Even occurs rendering at 480px wide just with intensity enabled.

Mihai wrote:About the globe issue, the sun jumps because it passes through another GMT zone, it's automatic. It uses another map to determine the current location GMT.

What OS are you running?
Windows XP! Mihai the problem though once it occurs the sun sticks to the horizon and wont budge manually!

Sticks to the horizon? You mean in the viewport compass, or it gets stuck in the earth globe? If you've set the time so the sun is below the horizon, moving the earth globe will also move the sun, so it's always below the horizon, it moves to keep the correct GMT for that location. If you could make a small video to see what's happening....
