Yes the water object must be hidden from cam, your right about the refraction position, I would fudge it in PS... if you camera map the pattern it will become like whte painted lines and the caustics will lose all they're intensity.

If the refraction slot in the environment tab isnt being used (unlikely) then you could screenmap the first caustic pass as a background and refract that, seems like hard work though.

So people, we still ain't got no solution for this ?

I saw Tom's sample, but how he do that ? I can't see any caustics though a dialetric at MW 2.6 ...

EDIT: I'm stuck on a non realistic, non refraction solution, being a water plane hidden from camera producing the caustics, and the AGS over it for reflection. My pool sucks.

Can anyone please advise?

Thanks guys !

Cheers !

You should try the opposite: water plane hidden to GI and AGS hidden to camera + reflections/refractions. It shows refraction and looks great despite there are no refracted caustics. You also get reflected caustics and can simulate something like refracted caustics by clipmapping AGS material with a caustics pattern (this is the weakest part).
