In the local material browser you can't, but in the web browser when you search for a material you can double click the small thumbs to bring up a bigger thumb. In the material list you can right click and choose Icon Size to have bigger thumbs in the material list.

Thank you Mihai. I saw the possibilities you mentioned. I understand. To my opinion it would be nice to get bigger icons directly in the material browser. On high resolution displays the icon in the material browser is a bit small. A double click is a a bit annoying, when you want to see better und chose the material.

But anyway, thank you for your support and answer, its helpful.
