That filed "SL Updates" refers to the Progressive Rendering.

This has been designed mainly for animations.

This field allows you to set the SL steps at which you want yo get results of your scene.

I.e: Setting your SL Updates to 3, 7 and 12, makes Maxwell to render your whole animation to SL=3, and get that "noisy" version pretty fast in your output folder.

You can start the postproduction of your sequence with that rough version. Meanwhile, Maxwell continuos working, resuming your sequence from SL3 to SL 7, and provides you refresh of your renders while you are postproducing them.

Finally, it resumes the whole sequence from SL7 to SL12 (in our example) to provide you with the final quality, but allowing you keep working on the following processes.

This Progressive Rendering workflow represents a huge saving of time, as the render process can happen overlapped during your postproduction time.

There is a more detailed description of this feature here:

Let me know if this answers your question.

Thanks Dario. It would be nice for stills that it just saved the progress at that SL but without stopping; as it would do when showing a preview. And also an option to save incrementally or overwrite.

I use it all the time for this without issue, so it DOES work like you're asking. If your final SL is set for 18, but you set SL updates to 3,10,14, then it seems to override 18 and make 14 your stopping SL. So if you wanted 18 as your final SL you'd have to do 3,10,14,18.

But for stills, why would you use this? You can still grab the render from disk whenever you want to. What's the difference?

In cooperative mode it does not save an image or merged mxi until the job is finished. You have to ask for a display, open in mxi viewer and save the image.
It's not super-useful but nice to automate some "checkpoints".

I cannot remember exactly, but I think the last time I used it the job stopped at the first step and did not moved on. Maybe I thought it had stopped because the system was low on RAM and took lot of time to launch the render. Will try again.

I just launched one cooperative through Maxwell Monitor, but with one node only (node and manager running on the same computer). I input SL updates 3,5,7,10,14. It rendered to 3 but never re-launched. Now my job list in Monitor is empty.

Is this the intention?
