Hello all..

I'm new on maxwell so please bare with..

my problem is that my model in maxwell is way off the centre of the grid and axis. i seem to me having difficulty selecting the whole model and moving so I'm wondering if there is any way i can move the default grid and axis into a position in my model?

also, when in camera mode, what does the blue mean, i know red is out of focus but can't work out what blue is for

any held will be appreciated

I don't think you can move the origin, but right click in the viewport and centre scene (shift-C) is a great tool to get the view aligned. Or in the object manager right click and select all to move everything at once. With the model being off centre in the first place, that might be a plug-in/export problem or scale issue.

The red reticule means the centre of the camera view is in front of the focal point, and the blue reticule means it's behind the focal point.

Sounds like an export issue. What program are you reporting from? In studio you can force it to zero out by going to object attributes, hitting "center" then moving your object to the center of the grid and hitting reset. Overall, it just sounds like like you aren't exporting fully correctly. Once you let us know what program you're exporting from, you be able to get the answer real quick, I'm sure.

thanks for the responses guys

im exporting from sketchup 8 pro

do i have to set the axis in sketchup?

also, one more issue: my model is a bridge, made up of lots of component. i modelled one half of the bridge then created a component then mirrored it to form the other half. now the issue I'm having is that i can't select anything in that component when in maxwell. also the emitters don't seem to work on that side too.

should i have copied and kept and individual rather than a component when in sketchup?

again, thanks for you help.

First thing first -- you should try this update to the plugin for the emitter issues:

The Maxwell origin and the SketchUp origin are in the exact same place so if the SketchUp origin is miles off then your Maxwell origin will be as well... short answer: set the origin in SketchUp before export.

The reason you cannot select certain things in Maxwell is because you have "use instances" enabled in the Maxwell plugin export options -- this means that those items exists in a separate panel within Studio and you have to deal with them using different tools.

My advice is to disable "use instances" if you intend to work with a model in Studio as this will make things simpler for you.

That said, I tend to model for Studio and that means that things that a person might typically do in SketchUp can cause difficulty when working in Studio -- so I organize my models to be easy to use in Maxwell Studio as I am doing my modelling in SketchUp.

Tools that are well worth keeping an eye on in SketchUp while modelling are the "entity info" palette, "Layers" palette, and "Organizer" palette... if you can easily navigate through your model using those tools, then your model will much easier to navigate in Maxwell Studio as well.

Best,
Jason.
