calculation of displacement happens very differently in maxwell.

as i understand there is technically no way to revert it into xyz object space.

Use Mudbox. I do this all the time to avoid driving up maxwell render time.

You can import model, and apply a displacement map created in photoshop to it..or scuplt within Mudbox...then output high res OBJ.
