Hi Guys, long time no see...

I'm trying to rende a kitchen interior here, but I'm having a hard time. Forsted glass is bringing some fireflies and I have trying usng a SSS panel but then the image won't ever get clean.

Any suggestions?

TIA

This is a SL 22 test with SSS

I have just downloaded a frosted glas from MXMgalery and doing another run. Looks better, lets see in a while and I'll post it.

Where do you use the frosted glass exactly? On the cupboard only?

Do you have glass in the exterior windows? If you are not needing interior reflections on the exterior glass, just remove the glass. All it is doing is creating extra calculations for lighting the scene.

Also, what is the RGB value of the Ref0 slot of the white material? Make sure it is 240 Maximum or it will produce extra noise by bouncing more reflected light than physically probable.

Hi I have this other setup, same basic materials but rough BSDF instead of SSS.

Everyting else cleans but the two glass pieces. My first run to the SSS was because i couldnt get this clean above SL 22. How far should I go?

Bubaloo, I have a bunch of wisard materials or gallery donaloaded ones. Pretty much everyone had 255 255 255 somewhere. I edited all of them to 240 and I'm doing another run.

Any more ideas?

Thanks!

EDIT BTW, The external windows are AGS and I hide them for the day shots.

Tom, The frosted glass goes on the cupboard only.

Have you tried frosted glass generated by the built-in wizard?

That was my first shot, with the Rhino plugin wizard. But since I have drifted a lot I'll just try it again.

It's true the frosted glass (or simply glass) won't get clean easily. So, you should also take care of surrounding materials such as walls as Brian suggested.

For interior renders with glass, there is a trick I have used in the past that works quite well. For the glass shelf, put glass material on the edges of the shelf and AGS on the top and bottom surfaces. The edges will have the look of refracting glass and the faces will calculate fast. Last time I did it was with 1.7, but it should still work.

BTW, RGB 255 is ok in the ref90 slot, just be careful with the ref0.

The cupboard glass could be done with rough AGS and generate less noise, and probably look good.

I'm trying the ags on the shelf trick, but I failed creating rough AGS. What should I be doing?

Looking way better now, thank you Tom, Bubaloo and Half Life.

I'm really rusty...

Mate as often in such joinery setups the smooth side of the frosted glass is outward (for easy cleaning) I would normally use 2 geometry layers of AGS. Inside plane as HalfLife suggests then a normal AGS on the outside.
