i have the same issue with the Peter Guthrie EXRs. Much too bright in the viewport. But it's the same when you open it in Photoshop.

Because, the background image in viewport is not affected by camera exposure. I hope this makes sense.

would it be possible to have an option to set a viewport multiplier for hdr/exr?
...or even better, would it be possible to use the camera exposure for the viewport display? this way you could set the brightness of the hdr/exr too :D

Hi Tom , I didnt say the position was incorrect with exr, just difficult to adjust position as you cant see it well enough.

OK, so you mean it's difficult to adjust EXR but not MXI? Try opening EXR with Maxwell and saving MXI out of it. Would that help?

You can adjust the exposure in PS and resave it. It won't affect the lighting quality, just resave a new "base" exposure.
