Am i correct in assuming that Maxwell renders at 72dpi? if so is there a way to get output from Maxwell at 300dpi? or is my workaround of needing a 1500px x 1500px @ 300dpi, means rendering 6250px x 6250px @ 72dpi and resizing in ps the only way to achieve this resolution?

thanks

How many inches are you needing?

dpi is different from ppi http://www.andrewdaceyphotography.com/articles/dpi/ and then there is also lpi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lines_per_inch

Multiply your desired dimensions by 300 and put that value into Maxwell and you will have a 300 ppi image.

You can set the ppi to be any value you like in Photoshop by using the "resize image" command and turning off "resample image".

BTW for a 300 lpi print you would want 450-600 ppi at the desired print dimensions (in inches).

Best,
Jason.

The info that i received was without inch dims, only 1500 x 1500 @300dpi

Even though it won't really do anything, your solution is the correct way to do what the clueless client is asking for.

so if i understand correctly, if i resize my 1500 x 1500 @72 dpi to 300 dpi i will have the exact same result, than rendering a 6250 x 6250 @72 dpi and adjusting size to 300 dpi?

No, because everything is dependent upon the "resample image" option in Photoshop.

If this image is "resampled" pixels are added or lost (depending on if you are going down or up).

If the image is NOT "resampled" then no pixels change whatsoever, the numbers just get re-arranged to meet your expectations.

Try it and you'll see... and again, lets be clear it's ppi not dpi (ie: pixels not dots).

Best,
Jason.
