And what to the little colored specks in the preview mean? I don't know if you can see them is this internet picture or not but I have little red, blue, green, gold dots in the preview window.

Fine. I can do that when I get back to the computer where I have that. I will not bother you with trivial questions any more.

Hey Steve,

I notice in your computer specs that you are using a slightly out of date version of Maxwell -- just a heads up.

The preview render is not the same engine as the final render and what those colored specks are is areas where the render engine still has work to do to "clear" those areas... with dielectric materials this is not a surprise as you will often have to render those to sample higher levels (18-25) to get the caustics to be rendered completely. You can see those areas are also in the final render but without the colored noise.

Benchmark is pretty much meaningless for anything other than checking the relative performance of the render -- you would use this number to see how one machine will differ from another in rendering efficiency/speed. This can also be useful to check the relative render performance of changes to the scene, eg: default material override versus full materialization... which can help you to figure out if you can optimize your scene/materials for a much faster render.

Best,
Jason.

It says there are not updates available when I use the check for updates from the help menu.
Also, when I go the the Customer Gateway the newest version seems to be 2.1.0.0

Is there a newer version or patch ?

I think you my be right. I just signed up for The Ranch Renderfarm and it said they are using v2.1.0.3 x64

How do I find this patch ?

I was just not sure if it would make any difference at the Render Farm.

Nope, when they open it up on their computers even though you saved it as a slightly older version, it will open in their slightly newer version and run on their version with the network fix. So it shouldn't matter. I wouldn't worry about it. The realtime preview update is supposed to come in within the next several weeks. I'd just not worry about updating until then (as I am).
