When lighting a scene with both IBL and artificial light (emitters) is there a best practice or any tips one can give? Basically I have an architectural interior lit mostly by IBL on one side of the model and using emitters toward the center of the building where the natural light just doesn't reach. Issue is exposure values and noise. I seem to be getting a a lot of noise even at SL 14 so I am hoping to optimize the scene. Also I am having trouble getting the right blend of emitter values and camera exposure to produce a natural result. I don't have the actual manufacturer info on the fixtures so I am having to wing it there.

Here's the facts:

- 133 emitters. Some up lights but mostly cans pointing down

- Emitters are one poly each

- any glass is AGS

- semi-shiny granite floor, mostly diffuse wood paneling on the walls, 100 rough ceiling tile, some stainless here and there, some chrome and diffuse fabric on furnishing.

Here is a floor plan so get a scene of the space involved. I am not rendering the grayed out areas, just the lobby area.

Here is my IBL by itself. The HDRI is from HyperFocul and set to default settings in all IBL slots.

Here it is when I turn on my emitters.

The camera is in a slightly different position but aside from turning on the emitters everything else is the same. So where did my direct sunlight go?? Will it just take hours for it to come in? Also why all the noise out in the natural lit section? Seems like it would be the reverse. Anyway, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

It did in fact help! In the end there were 190 emitters plus daylight. I'll post a shot when a get back to the office tomorrow. The noise cleaned up much faster and multi light worked more reliably.
