The thing is... Why the same scenes with the same materials and settings, rendering to the same SL with Maxwell 1.7 were a lot less grainy?

That's because the way SL value is calculated have changed too. You can't compare SL of v1.7 and v2.

Do you mean the SL in Maxwell 2 is "worth" less than in Maxwell 1.7?
So Maxwell 2 is slower than Maxwell 1.7 at the end!? Because if I render SL 12 in both Maxwells, the V2 finishes first, but if I have to render 13 or 14 with Maxwell 2, or even 15 as I've been doing to have a similar quality I had before, then the V1.7 will be much faster... Are you sure of that?

Fernando, how can I send you my white material?

As far as I can see Maxwell 2 is way faster in achieving the same quality than it was with 1.7. What I am telling is that the scale of SL have changed so that you can no longer compare them. You can still compare quality/time though.

Hi Edwin,

I do yacht renders too, and bright white glossy yacht finish is something I've been using. I also noticed a change when moving from V1.7 to V2, but not quite as drastic as what you are experiencing. The smoothness/reflectivity of materials in V2 seems to have a greater effect when using sunlight.

I've moved to using IBL and found it clears a lot quicker.

Be glad to help with your materials/set up if you want. You can contact me here or if you need to keep it confidential, (as all large yacht work seems to be!) contact me through my website http://www.fluid-future.com

Best regards,
Bim Daser
